What is the city but the people? ~William Shakespeare

You might ask – people ? What people ? We only see a labyrinth of concrete monsters. Traffic jams and pollution. Garbage dumps, smoke and dust. Waterlogging and potholes. Hawkers yelling at the top of their voice till you want to shut them out. Every city has them all. Some have described the city as a concrete jungle, some as a human zoo.

But is it really that ? Or is it a medley of moods, styles and cultures ? I see and feel in these very labyrinths, jams, smoke and dust, the throbbing pulse of the city. The sights, sounds and smells that oh-so define a city, at times, make me want to go and lose myself in that city.

Through my vocabulary of art, here is an insight into some cityscapes which left an impression on me. Through my cityscapes, I’d like to bring out not just the ‘hard city’ that one ‘sees’ on a map or in a demographic or concrete form, but the ‘soft city’ which one ‘feels’ through one’s eyes….and which is as real as the hard city.
